Taking the first step toward recovery is brave — and if you’re reading this, you’ve already done something incredibly important. You’re asking questions. You’re looking for the right fit. And that matters more than you might know.
At Luna Recovery for Women, we understand that choosing a treatment program isn’t a small decision. It’s deeply personal. That’s why we want to help you understand what to look for in a women’s outpatient program — so that whatever path you choose, you feel confident and supported every step of the way.
What Is a Women’s Outpatient Program?
A women’s outpatient program is a structured treatment program for addiction or mental health that allows you to receive professional care while still living at home. You come in for scheduled sessions during the day, and return to your home and family in the evenings.
At Luna, we offer two levels of outpatient care to meet you where you are:
Full-Day Outpatient Programs are designed for women who need more intensive, structured support. These programs run throughout the day, several days a week, and include individual therapy, group sessions, and skill-building — all within a focused, healing environment. We offer a Full-Day Outpatient Addiction Treatment Program and Full-Day Outpatient Mental Health Treatment Program.
Half-Day Outpatient Programs offer a lighter but still meaningful level of care. These are a great option if you’ve completed a more intensive program and are ready to transition, or if your current needs call for consistent support without a full-day commitment. We offer a Half-Day Outpatient Addiction Treatment Program and Half-Day Outpatient Mental Health Treatment Program.
Having both options means your care can evolve as you do.
Why Women-Only Treatment Makes a Difference
There’s something powerful about being in a room full of women who truly get it.
Women come to treatment carrying experiences that are uniquely their own — trauma, relationship stress, the weight of caretaking, and social pressures that don’t always get addressed in mixed-gender settings. At Luna Recovery for Women, everything we do is built around you. This isn’t a co-ed program with a women’s section — it’s a space designed entirely with women in mind.
In a women-only environment, you’re more likely to feel safe opening up about the things that are hardest to say. You’ll build connections with peers who share similar experiences. And your treatment plan will reflect the realities of your life — not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Also, getting treatment for postpartum depression from a women-only treatment center can be a world of difference.
What to Look for When Choosing a Program
Whether you’re considering Luna or exploring other options in your area, here are the most important things to keep in mind.
Does the program treat both addiction and mental health?
For many women, addiction and mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, or trauma don’t show up separately — they’re intertwined. Look for a program that treats both at the same time, with clinicians who understand how deeply connected they can be. At Luna, integrated care is at the heart of what we do.
What levels of care are available?
Recovery isn’t linear, and your needs will likely change over time. A program that offers both full-day and half-day options — like Luna does — means you won’t have to start over somewhere new when you’re ready to step down in intensity. Your care team and your community stay with you.
Is the approach evidence-based?
Ask any program you’re considering what therapeutic methods they use. Effective outpatient treatment typically draws on approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and group therapy. If a program can’t clearly explain how they treat, that’s worth paying attention to.
Who will be on your care team?
You deserve to be treated by people who specialize in women’s behavioral health. Ask about staff credentials, how individualized treatment plans are developed, and how often they’re reviewed and updated as you progress.
Does the schedule fit your life?
One of the biggest benefits of outpatient care is that it works around your life — not the other way around. Whether you have kids, a job, or other daily responsibilities, your schedule matters. A program that doesn’t fit your reality will be much harder to complete, and you deserve better than that.
Questions Worth Asking Before You Enroll
When you’re exploring programs, don’t be afraid to ask direct questions. Here are a few to get you started:
- Is this a women-only program?
- Do you treat co-occurring addiction and mental health conditions together?
- What levels of outpatient care do you offer?
- What does a typical week look like?
- How is my treatment plan personalized — and how often is it updated?
- What happens if my needs change during treatment?
The answers will tell you a lot about whether a program is truly built for you.
